Chief Executive
Officer of Vodacom Tanzania, Philip Besiimire has met with the Chairperson of
the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation, Angelina Ngalula to discuss and explore
various avenues to increase Tanzania's digital economy in line with Tanzania
Development Vision (TDV) 2025.
In a brief remark
during the meeting, Ms. Ngalula noted that “Leveraging mobile technology to
realize the development goals in Tanzania requires collaboration by all
stakeholders, including the government, development organizations, private
sector players, and the mobile industry.”

In his comment, Mr.
Besiimire who also doubles as the chairperson of the Tanzania Mobile Network
Operators Association (TAMNOA), acknowledged that digital technologies
play an increasingly important role in addressing critical elements of the
development goals.
“The Mobile industry
is contributing significantly to the realization of Tanzania’s development
goals through various activities and initiatives by mobile operators and other
ecosystem players such as access to key services, contribution to economic
growth and socio-economic development, and e-government strategy,” he stated.

The Vodacom Tanzania CEO vowed to continue working closely with the Tanzania Private Sector
Foundation (TPSF) in its advocacy platforms to realize the common agenda of
digital inclusion,
The government has emphasized its ambitious plan to increase the utilization of
broadband internet from 45 percent to 80 percent, as well as the number of
internet users from 43 percent to 80 percent by the year 2025, and a lot of
capital investment is needed to succeed in this ambitious plan.
