The
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has hosted 185 students from across
the country on an educational tour of the National Communications Museum in
Abuja as part of the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme.
The
initiative is aimed at exposing young Nigerian girls to the nation’s
telecommunications history while inspiring greater participation in science,
technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as the broader ICT
sector.
During
the visit, the students explored key milestones in Nigeria’s communications
evolution, gaining insights into the development of the country’s digital
infrastructure and the role of telecommunications in national development.
The
NCC also commended the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of
Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, for
championing initiatives that promote digital literacy and empower girls with
relevant technological skills.
According
to the Commission, programmes such as the National Girls in ICT initiative are
critical to building a more inclusive digital economy and preparing the next
generation of innovators who will contribute to Nigeria’s future technological
growth.
The
Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and programmes that
expand access to digital education and encourage greater female participation
in the ICT sector.
