Ghana
has been ranked 6th in Africa and 20th globally in the 2026 Global Outsourcing
AI Readiness Index published by Ataraxis, highlighting a mixed performance in
artificial intelligence preparedness, with strong workforce literacy but weak
enterprise-level adoption.
According
to the index, Ghana scores 42.25 out of 100 overall, placing it within a
closely contested cluster of countries where small improvements in key areas
could significantly shift rankings. The country sits just behind Morocco and
ahead of Pakistan in the global ranking.
A
key highlight of Ghana’s performance is its workforce AI literacy, where it
ranks 4th in Africa. Ghanaian workers scored 54 out of 100, placing the country
behind Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya, but ahead of Egypt, Morocco, Uganda,
and Ethiopia. The report identifies this as Ghana’s strongest area, reflecting
growing familiarity with AI tools among the workforce.
However,
the index also reveals a significant gap in enterprise AI adoption, where Ghana
scores 31 out of 100. This places it among countries with limited integration
of AI into business operations, alongside a broader continental trend where
most African economies remain below the threshold of advanced enterprise
deployment. South Africa remains the only African country with an enterprise AI
adoption score above 50.
The
23-point disparity between workforce literacy and enterprise adoption
underscores a structural imbalance, where employees are increasingly exposed to
AI tools, but businesses are yet to fully integrate these technologies into
production systems and workflows.
Ghana’s
AI education pipeline also remains relatively weak, scoring 36 out of 100 and
ranking in the bottom quartile among 25 global outsourcing destinations
assessed in the index. The report suggests that strengthening AI education and
training systems will be critical to sustaining long-term competitiveness.
Despite
these challenges, Ghana’s position remains competitive within a tightly grouped
segment of countries in Africa and globally, meaning incremental improvements
in AI adoption, education, and enterprise integration could significantly
improve its ranking.
