The Special Session of the
Administrative Council of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) has
commenced in Abuja, Nigeria, as part of preparations for the upcoming 7th
Ordinary Session of the Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26).
During the first day of
deliberations, Council members reviewed key institutional, financial and
procedural matters that will form part of the preparations ahead of discussions
involving the wider ATU membership.
The session provided an
opportunity for members to draw on the Council’s experiences over the past four
years and consider issues aimed at strengthening the foundation for decisions
to be taken by member states during the plenipotentiary conference.
The Administrative Council
is expected to continue its deliberations before the Conference Preparatory
Committee meets from 20 to 21 July 2026.
The Seventh Ordinary Session
of the ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries will then take place from 23 to 24
July 2026 in Abuja, bringing together African telecommunications stakeholders
to discuss strategic issues affecting the continent’s digital transformation
and ICT development agenda.
