Rwanda has showcased its
National Health Intelligence Center (NHIC) as part of efforts to demonstrate
how real-time health data and technology are transforming healthcare delivery
across the country.
The centre hosted Bill Gates
and a delegation from the Gates Foundation during a visit led by Rwanda’s
Minister of Health Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana and Minister of ICT and Innovation
Paula Ingabire.
During the engagement,
officials highlighted how the NHIC is consolidating national health data to
support faster decision-making, improve service delivery and enable a more
proactive approach to healthcare management.
Since its establishment, the
platform has contributed to improving healthcare operations by reducing patient
waiting times, strengthening emergency response coordination, enhancing disease
surveillance and supporting more targeted allocation of health resources.
Rwanda’s health authorities
said the integration of digital technologies and centralised data systems is
helping shift healthcare management from responding to challenges after they
occur to anticipating and preventing emerging health risks.
The partnership with the
Gates Foundation is expected to support the expansion of NHIC’s capabilities,
including the development of predictive health intelligence tools designed to
forecast disease outbreaks, provide early-warning alerts and improve public
health preparedness.
Officials said the use of
advanced technologies and data-driven approaches will continue to play a
critical role in Rwanda’s efforts to provide more efficient, accessible and
responsive healthcare services.
