MTN South Africa has
announced a major network investment programme in the North West Province as
part of efforts to improve connectivity, support digital inclusion and
contribute to regional economic development.
The announcement followed a
stakeholder engagement meeting between MTN South Africa’s Executive Committee,
led by Deputy CEO Yolanda Cuba, and North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi
and the Provincial Executive.
MTN said it will invest more
than R150 million in 2026 to upgrade and expand network infrastructure across
the province, including improvements to more than 1,000 network towers and the
extension of 4G and 5G coverage to additional communities.
The telecommunications
company said the investment is aimed at strengthening digital access for
residents, businesses and public institutions while supporting the province’s
development priorities.
Beyond network expansion,
MTN South Africa highlighted the role of its foundation in promoting digital
inclusion through investments in education, digital skills development and
youth empowerment programmes.
The initiatives include the
establishment of 37 multimedia centres, the Bojanala Teacher Centre and the
Digital Skills Hub in Marikana, which are designed to provide communities with
access to technology and digital learning opportunities.
MTN said continued
collaboration with government and other partners remains central to its efforts
to drive economic growth, improve digital participation and ensure more
communities benefit from South Africa’s digital transformation.
