Rwanda’s digital services
platform Irembo has highlighted the role of citizen-centred digital public
infrastructure in strengthening healthcare systems and improving equitable
access to services during the inaugural Paul Farmer Butaro Dialogues on Health
Equity and Innovation.
Irembo Chief Executive
Officer Israel Bimpe participated in the event, hosted by the University of
Global Health Equity (UGHE) and the Consortium of Medical Schools-Africa
(COMS-A), in partnership with the Gates Foundation.
The inaugural dialogue, held
under the theme “Closing the Gap Between Proven Innovations and Their
Implementation in Maternal and Newborn Health,” brought together leaders from
government, academia, healthcare and technology sectors to discuss ways of translating
proven innovations into practical solutions that improve health outcomes.
During the
Innovation-to-Implementation Pathway panel, Bimpe shared Irembo’s experience in
developing and scaling digital public infrastructure designed around citizens’
needs. He highlighted the importance of building trusted and reliable digital
platforms in collaboration with communities to encourage adoption and support
stronger public service delivery.
The event was attended by
First Lady of Rwanda, Jeannette Kagame, as Guest of Honour, while Gates
Foundation Chair Bill Gates delivered the inaugural Butaro Dialogue lecture.
Irembo said its
participation as a founding partner of the Paul Farmer Butaro Dialogues
reflects its commitment to advancing artificial intelligence, digital public
infrastructure and digital health solutions through collaboration with
institutions working to shape Africa’s future.
