Kenya's Special Envoy for
Climate Change, Ambassador Ali Mohamed, has held high-level discussions with
the leadership of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
to speed up the implementation of the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative
(AGII), following the bank's signing of the AGII Cooperation Framework.
The meeting brought together
EBRD representatives Gianpiero Nacci, Heike Harmgart and Anzetse Were to
discuss strategies for accelerating green industrial development and mobilising
investment across the continent.
A key focus of the
discussions was the AGII Joint Project Preparation Platform, which is designed
to originate regional value chain projects, develop a pipeline of bankable
investments, reduce transaction costs, shorten project development timelines
and improve investment readiness.
The initiative aims to
strengthen collaboration between African and international partners to unlock
financing for transformative green industrial projects that support sustainable
economic development.
Officials noted that the
platform will play a critical role in mobilising African capital alongside
international investment, helping to accelerate the development of competitive
regional industries while creating jobs and enhancing economic resilience.
