Kenya and the United Kingdom
are exploring stronger cooperation in cybersecurity as both countries seek to
strengthen trust and resilience in an increasingly digital economy.
Kenya’s Principal Secretary
for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, held discussions with
Dr Ed Barnett MBE, Deputy British High Commissioner to Kenya and UK Permanent
Representative to UNEP and UN-Habitat, on deepening bilateral collaboration in
cybersecurity.
The discussions were also
attended by Kenya’s Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary,
Steve Isaboke.
The engagement focused on
aligning cybersecurity standards with global best practices and strengthening
Kenya’s capacity to respond to emerging cyber threats.
The two sides also examined
opportunities to support the practical adoption of cybersecurity standards and
promote secure-by-design approaches in the development and deployment of
emerging technologies.
Tanui said strengthening
cybersecurity is increasingly important as digital technologies transform how
governments deliver services, businesses operate and citizens interact.
The discussions form part of
broader efforts to strengthen the UK-Kenya digital partnership and support the
development of a secure and trusted digital economy.
The proposed cooperation is
expected to contribute to local skills development, stronger cybersecurity
practices and improved resilience across Kenya’s digital infrastructure and
emerging technology ecosystem.
