Togo’s Council of Ministers
has advanced measures aimed at strengthening sustainable forest management and
investment promotion as the government continues its reform programme focused
on economic development, environmental protection and public welfare.
The Council, chaired by Head
of State Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, examined
several texts relating to the continuation of government action.
A major focus of the meeting
was the preservation and sustainable management of Togo’s forest resources,
with particular attention to greater involvement of local communities and the
implementation of support measures for populations affected by the severe
impacts of climate change.
The government also
considered measures to strengthen the institutional framework for investment
promotion, paving the way for the operationalisation of the Investment
Promotion Agency and the free zone.
The reforms are intended to
improve the country’s capacity to attract and facilitate investment while
creating a more effective institutional environment for economic activity.
According to President
Gnassingbé, the measures form part of the government’s broader commitment to
more effective public action in support of economic development, improved
living conditions and the protection of Togo’s natural environment.
The decisions taken at the
Council of Ministers reflect the government’s efforts to balance economic
development with environmental sustainability while strengthening the
institutions responsible for investment and territorial development.
