Rwanda and the African Union
Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) are strengthening their partnership with
plans to establish an AUDA-NEPAD National Office in Rwanda to deepen
institutional engagement, align development priorities and accelerate implementation
of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
The development follows an
engagement between Rwandan President Paul Kagame and AUDA-NEPAD Chief Executive
Officer Nardos Bekele-Thomas, during which they discussed the next phase of
cooperation between Rwanda and the continental development agency.
Bekele-Thomas said the
discussions reaffirmed the strength of the partnership and the shared
commitment to accelerating the implementation of Africa’s development agenda.
The proposed AUDA-NEPAD
National Office in Rwanda is expected to provide a platform for closer
institutional cooperation and stronger alignment between the agency’s
programmes and Rwanda’s national development priorities.
The office is also intended
to support faster implementation of initiatives linked to Agenda 2063 and
improve coordination around development programmes at the national level.
Bekele-Thomas said Rwanda’s
experience demonstrates the importance of national ownership, institutional
discipline and effective implementation in translating development priorities
into tangible results.
