The Technopolis Development
Authority is exploring lessons from South Korea’s digital media ecosystem as it
advances plans to establish a Digital Media City at Konza Technopolis in Kenya.
Chief Executive Officer John
Paul Okwiri led a delegation from the Technopolis Development Authority,
alongside Genesis Design Factory Managing Director Mike Mwiti, on a learning
and collaboration tour of the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) XR Center at Sangam
Digital Media City in Seoul, South Korea.
The visit provided the
delegation with first-hand insights into the development of Sangam Digital
Media City and its ecosystem, with particular attention to how digital media,
technology, innovation and creative industries have been integrated within a dedicated
urban environment.
The engagement comes as the
Authority advances plans to establish a Konza Digital Media City at Konza
Technopolis, modelled on the Sangam DMC concept.
The proposed development is
intended to create an enabling ecosystem for the growth of Kenya’s digital
media and creative economy by bringing together infrastructure, technology,
talent, innovation and industry within Konza Technopolis.
The Authority said the Seoul
visit forms part of efforts to draw lessons from established global models as
it works towards developing a globally competitive Digital Media City.
Beyond learning from the
Sangam model, the Technopolis Development Authority is also exploring
opportunities for knowledge exchange, strategic partnerships and collaboration
that could support the development and long-term growth of the proposed Konza
Digital Media City.
