Zimbabwe’s Minister of
Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda
Mavetera, has highlighted the importance of leadership, professional
relationships and Pan-African networks as she travelled to the United Nations
General Assembly (UNGA).
Mavetera shared the
reflection after meeting South Africa’s Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy
Majodina, whom she described as a former colleague from the Pan-African
Parliament (PAP).
Majodina previously served
as Chairperson of the South African Caucus at the Pan-African Parliament.
Mavetera said that, before 2023, Majodina was her immediate supervisor, while
PAP President Chief Fortune Charumbira served as the overall leader.
Reflecting on their shared
experience at the continental legislative institution, Mavetera said the
journey reinforced the importance of relationships and professional networks
built through Pan-African institutions.
She said such relationships
continue to shape, support and connect African leaders across the continent,
even as they take on different responsibilities.
As a young woman serving as
Zimbabwe’s ICTPCS Minister, Mavetera said she draws inspiration from women
leaders such as Majodina, whom she described as an example of leadership and
continued commitment to public service.
Mavetera also expressed
appreciation to Majodina for her example and wished her continued success in
her role as South Africa’s Minister of Water and Sanitation.
Her comments come as African
leaders and government officials prepare to participate in the United Nations
General Assembly, providing an opportunity for engagement on issues affecting
the continent and strengthening relationships across African institutions.
