A new cooperation agreement
between the telecommunications regulators of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger has
established the Council of Sahel Regulators, marking a new stage in regional
cooperation in the electronic communications and postal sectors.
The agreement brings
together ARCEP Burkina Faso, AMRTP Mali and ARCEP Niger as the three countries
seek to strengthen regulatory cooperation and harmonise practices across their
common digital space.
The initiative is expected
to support efforts around digital sovereignty, user protection and the
harmonisation of regulatory practices, areas considered important to the
sustainable development of digital services and usage across the three
countries.
Orange Burkina Faso welcomed
the development, highlighting the importance of a regulatory environment that
promotes trust, innovation, quality of service and digital inclusion.
The operator said the
creation of the Council reflects the importance of cooperation between
institutions, regulators and operators in building a sustainable digital
ecosystem that serves the population.
Orange Burkina Faso also
reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to the regional digital agenda
through continued investment in infrastructure, services and skills.
The company said such
investments will support efforts to make digital technology increasingly
accessible, useful and secure for users across the region.
The establishment of the
Council of Sahel Regulators therefore provides a new framework for Burkina
Faso, Mali and Niger to deepen regulatory coordination while supporting the
development of their electronic communications and postal sectors.
