Swiss institutional capital
is set to be connected with opportunities in Kenya’s financial services and
technology ecosystem following an agreement between NIFC Africa and New Wind
Ventures signed on the margins of UNGA81 in New York.
The agreement, led by
Veronica Almedom of New Wind Ventures, was signed at the Consulate General of
Switzerland in New York, creating a pathway to connect Swiss institutional
capital with opportunities in Kenya’s financial services and technology ecosystem.
The initiative followed
several months of work involving H.E. Ambassador Fouzia Abdirahman Abass,
Kenya’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Daniel Mainda, CEO of NIFC
Africa, and Ambassador Philip Thigo, Special Envoy on Technology, for H.E the
President of the Republic of Kenya.
The agreement will focus on
stronger investment data, greater transparency, reduced transaction friction,
and the responsible application of emerging technologies within Kenya’s
regulatory framework.
Ambassador Philip Thigo,
MBS, said the agreement represents the practical work of economic and
technology diplomacy by building partnerships capable of mobilizing capital,
deepening markets, creating jobs and strengthening Nairobi’s position as a
globally competitive financial center.
“This is the practical work
of economic and technology diplomacy: building trusted partnerships that can
mobilize capital, deepen markets, create jobs, and strengthen Nairobi’s
position as a globally competitive financial center,” Thigo said.
He described the agreement
as “an important milestone,” while noting that its success will be measured by
the opportunities structured and the transactions delivered.
The partnership brings
together Kenyan financial and technology opportunities with Swiss institutional
capital as stakeholders seek to strengthen investment links and expand economic
cooperation between the two countries.
