More than 6,200 creators
from across Kenya participated in Safaricom’s Capture the Good Challenge, which
has recognised Mathew Meli and Kennedy Kamau as the grand winners in
Photography and Videography, respectively.
Safaricom PLC Group Chief
Executive Officer for Kenya and Ethiopia, Dr. Peter Ndegwa C.B.S., announced the
winners, saying the initiative brought together emerging photographers,
videographers and storytellers to document how communities and lives are being
transformed through the Safaricom Foundation and M-PESA Foundation.
According to Ndegwa,
participants received coaching and mentorship throughout the challenge, helping
them develop their storytelling skills and turn their creative ideas into
impactful stories.
“There is so much talent in
Kenya, and sometimes all it takes is an opportunity for that talent to shine,”
Ndegwa said.
He congratulated Meli and
Kamau on their achievements, noting that their journey demonstrated how talent
could emerge from different parts of the country when people have opportunities
to develop their skills and showcase their work.
Ndegwa also thanked the
finalists and other participants for demonstrating the potential of Kenyan
creativity, encouraging them to continue producing stories that matter.
The Capture the Good
Challenge forms part of efforts to tell stories about the lives and communities
being transformed through the work of the Safaricom Foundation and M-PESA
Foundation.
