Bayobab, MTN Group’s digital
infrastructure business, has won the Platform Business Award at the 2026 Y’ello
Care Awards, recognising its contribution to the Group’s employee volunteerism
programme.
The award was announced
during MTN Group’s Ambassadors’ Appreciation Dinner, which hosted South
Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi,
alongside ambassadors, high commissioners and representatives of development
institutions and international organisations from across MTN’s markets.
For 19 years, MTN’s Y’ello
Care employee volunteerism programme has brought employees together to give
their time, skills and energy to the communities the Group serves.
This year, more than 6,000
MTN employees contributed over 50,000 volunteer hours to healthcare initiatives
reaching more than 400,000 people under the theme “Expanding Equitable Health
for Every Community”.
MTN Group Chief
Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo Morafo said: “Expanding
access to healthcare is not only a health imperative; it is essential to
education, skills development, inclusion and sustainable growth. I am deeply
grateful to every MTNer who gave their time and skills, and to the health
workers, governments and communities who made this work possible.”
Bayobab was among the
winners recognised for their contributions to the campaign, alongside MTN
Eswatini, named overall winner; MTN Benin, the Francophone Africa Regional
Winner; and MTN Uganda, the SEAGHA Regional Winner.
The awards also recognised
MTN employees and teams for demonstrating the Group’s values and contributions
in other areas, including digital tools, collaboration and social media
engagement.
MTN congratulated all
employees and partners who helped turn purpose into practical action during the
year’s campaign.
