The West African Science
Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) has confirmed
interest in collaboration with the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage
(FRLD), following discussions at the 5th Venice Conference on Climate Change &
Sustainability.
The engagement is expected
to involve further exchanges ahead of COP31, as WASCAL seeks to strengthen
partnerships connecting climate science, finance and regional priorities.
WASCAL was represented at
the conference by Jean Francis Sempore, Fundraising and Project Manager, who
joined discussions on global sustainability, with particular attention to the
session “Developing Renewables in Africa: Grids, Finance and Distributed Solutions
(focus on solar).”
The conference explored
renewable energy financing and solar solutions for Africa, bringing attention
to the role of investment and distributed energy approaches in advancing
sustainability.
WASCAL also identified
opportunities to strengthen engagement with Vision Think Tank and other climate
finance stakeholders.
The organisation said such
engagements provide opportunities to connect scientific knowledge,
institutional partnerships and climate finance discussions with regional
priorities in research, innovation, capacity development and climate services.
