African Union Commissioner
for Infrastructure and Energy, H.E. Lerato D. Mataboge, has called for renewed
commitment to accelerating Africa’s digital transformation and strengthening
the continent’s voice in the global digital agenda ahead of the Sixth Ordinary
Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Communication
and ICT (STC-CICT6).
The meeting, scheduled for
October 26–30, 2026, in Libreville, Gabon, will bring together African
ministers, senior officials, experts and development partners to review
progress under the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa (2020–2030) and
advance continental priorities in artificial intelligence, data governance,
cybersecurity, digital identity and digital infrastructure.
“Our priority is to
translate continental commitments into tangible benefits for millions of
Africans through an inclusive, secure digital transformation that supports
sustainable development,” Commissioner Mataboge emphasised.
As Gabon finalises
preparations to host the meeting, the session is expected to provide a platform
for strengthening cooperation, accelerating implementation and shaping Africa’s
collective digital future.
Held under the theme
“Africa’s Digital Future, Africa’s Voice: Advancing Innovation, Digital
Inclusion and Shaping Africa’s Narrative,” the meeting will focus on advancing
innovation, promoting digital inclusion and strengthening Africa’s role in
shaping the global digital agenda.
