Telkom South Africa will
provide infrastructure and technical expertise to support hundreds of
results-capturing sites and the national and provincial results centres as the
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) prepares for the local government
elections.
Telkom Group Chief Executive
Officer Serame Taukobong said the company’s contribution builds on its support
for South Africa’s elections since 1994, describing the relationship with the
IEC as having both a commercial foundation and wider national significance.
“For this election, our
infrastructure and expertise will support hundreds of results-capturing sites
and the national and provincial results centres,” Taukobong said.
He said the company’s
ability to support the electoral process reflects sustained investment in
networks, technology and skills, alongside coordination across the Telkom
Group.
“Making it dependable
requires the capabilities across our Group to work together, with tested
connections, contingency arrangements and clear ownership,” he said.
Taukobong said the work
behind election results systems connects Telkom’s operations to people who
depend on institutions being able to carry out their responsibilities, even if
they never see the engineers, networks or preparations involved.
He added that the company
had used lessons from previous elections to strengthen its preparations for the
upcoming polls.
“I am proud of the
colleagues who have turned lessons from previous elections into stronger
preparations for this one,” he said, adding that Telkom was ready to support
the IEC’s independent mandate, with the company’s leadership focused on the
services entrusted to it.
Taukobong said Telkom’s
commitment was to deliver its services with care, respond with urgency and take
ownership of its work.
“A country’s voice deserves
that level of attention,” he said.
