Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL), Shaibu Haruna,
has been named CEO of the Year – Fintech, at the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards
2026, securing the honour for the second consecutive year.
The award follows a year of milestones spanning MMFL’s transition
to a dedicated fintech business, industry collaboration on trusted digital
finance and opportunities for emerging innovators. Mr. Haruna’s work across
these areas has brought together business development, ecosystem partnerships
and investment in future talent.
Earlier in 2026, Mr. Haruna was also named Fintech CEO of the Year
at the MTN Group Global Leadership Gathering.
A key milestone in 2026 was the structural separation of Scancom
PLC’s mobile money business, effective March 31, with Mr. Haruna overseeing
MMFL’s transition as Chief Executive Officer. The statutory merger of
MobileMoney Ltd. into MobileMoney Fintech LTD supported focused fintech growth
and compliance with localisation requirements under the Payment Systems and
Services Act, 2019 (Act 987).
The business also continued to grow. MoMo revenue rose by 35.7 per
cent in 2025, while active users reached 19.3 million. Revenue growth continued
in the first half of 2026, supported by basic services, digital payments and
lending.
Beyond the business transition, his industry contributions have
addressed the conditions needed for sustainable fintech growth. At the 3i
Africa Summit, Mr. Haruna advocated stronger consumer protection in digital
lending, interoperability and shared financial infrastructure. His recorded
contribution to the Future of Finance Dialogues explored how regulation, trust
and technology can support digital finance.
Collaboration has been a recurring theme. Through the Fintech
Partner Exchange, he supported a collective response to digital fraud and the
sharing of forum outcomes with stakeholders. On digital assets, virtual assets
and tokenisation, he called for banks and fintechs to build new services on
Ghana’s existing mobile money infrastructure.
He also contributed to the MTN Group Fintech Summit’s “Africa’s
Velocity Index” CEO panel on financial health, resilience and market maturity. Through
the Fintech Media Development Series, he engaged journalists on fintech
strategy, financial inclusion, cybersecurity and consumer protection,
strengthening their capacity to report accurately on the fintech industry and
deepen public trust.
The emphasis throughout has been on what digital finance enables
people and businesses to do. At the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards High-Level
Dialogue, he called for digital financial records to help expand access to
credit, savings and investment.
Mr. Haruna advocates collaboration across the fintech ecosystem to
deliver value to customers and promote financial health. Nurturing the people
who will build the next generation of financial services is another part of
this agenda. His commitment to identifying and developing talent is reflected
in the MoMo Fintech Lab, convened by MMFL in partnership with the Bank of Ghana
and fintech ecosystem players. The nationwide programme supports students,
developers, entrepreneurs, startups and innovators to turn ideas into practical
financial solutions.
Commenting on the recognition, Mr. Haruna thanked the organisers and acknowledged the contribution of his team and
partners: “I am honored to receive this award
for the second consecutive year. I share this recognition with the MMFL team
and our partners across the fintech ecosystem. We remain committed to building
trusted financial services, strengthening collaboration and nurturing the
talent that will shape the future of fintech in Ghana.”
A team from MobileMoney Fintech LTD received the award on Mr.
Haruna’s behalf at the ceremony.
