MobileMoney
Limited (MoMo by MTN) has issued an official statement refuting viral social
media rumors suggesting a cybersecurity breach compromising customer funds. The
mobile financial services provider categorically denied these claims as
"completely misleading and untrue," confirming its systems remain
fully secure with no customer losses incurred.
The
clarification comes in response to unsubstantiated online posts urging MoMo
users to withdraw funds under false pretenses. "Our mobile money
platform continues operating with its industry-standard security protections
intact," stated the company. "All customer funds remain
safeguarded by multiple layers of security including end-to-end encryption,
real-time transaction monitoring, and multi-factor authentication
protocols."
Adwoa Wiafe,
Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, emphasized
the platform's rigorous defense mechanisms: "We operate under strict
regulatory oversight with continuous system enhancements to counter emerging
threats. Our collaboration with financial authorities and cybersecurity
partners ensures we maintain the highest security benchmarks for over 12
million MoMo users."
The company
reminded customers to disregard unauthorized security alerts and instead verify
information through official MTN Ghana channels. Critical precautions include
never sharing PINs, passwords, or one-time codes with third parties – whether
via call, text, or email.
MobileMoney
Limited operates Ghana's largest mobile money platform, processing billions in
transactions monthly. Its security infrastructure undergoes regular penetration
testing by independent auditors and maintains ISO-certified data protection
standards. Customers experiencing concerns were advised to contact the 24/7 MTN
customer care line at 100 for direct assistance.
