The Director
General of the Regional African Satellite Communication Organization (RASCOM),
Timothy Ashong has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Communication
Commission (NCC) headquarters in Abuja to discuss enhanced collaboration on
satellite regulation and digital infrastructure development across Africa.
The meeting
focused on aligning regulatory frameworks to support Africa's growing satellite
communications sector, with both organizations emphasizing the need for
harmonized policies to drive connectivity and innovation.
Following close
door discussions, Mr. Ashong highlighted RASCOM’s commitment to fostering
partnerships that enhance Africa’s satellite capabilities.
"Our
collaboration with the NCC is critical in ensuring that satellite regulations
are robust, forward-looking, and supportive of Africa’s digital transformation
goals," Ashong said. "By working
closely with national regulators like the NCC, we can create an enabling
environment for affordable and reliable satellite services across the
continent."
He said the
discussions also explored strategies for improving satellite spectrum
management, reducing barriers to market entry, and promoting investment in
Africa’s space and satellite sector. Both parties agreed on the need for a
unified approach to regulation to ensure seamless cross-border satellite
services.
The visit
underscores RASCOM’s broader strategy to work with African regulators and
telecom bodies in driving satellite-based solutions for connectivity,
broadcasting, and emergency communications.
