Ethiopia's
Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI) has forged a strategic
partnership with the Oromia Tourism Commission through a newly signed
Memorandum of Understanding aimed at revolutionizing the region's tourism
sector. The agreement, inked at SSGI's Entoto Observatory and Research Center,
establishes a framework for knowledge exchange and technological collaboration
to enhance tourism development.

SSGI Deputy
Director General Bethlehem Nikisie noted the institute's commitment to applying
space science and geospatial technologies for national development, stating the
partnership will ensure Ethiopia's tourism resources are properly utilized and
made accessible. The collaboration will leverage satellite imagery, mapping
technologies, and research capabilities to identify, develop, and promote
Oromia's tourism assets.
Oromia Tourism
Commission Deputy Commissioner Nega Friendjo in a remark highlighted the
commission's four-year effort to engage diverse stakeholders in tourism
development, noting how space-based technologies can provide innovative
solutions for sectoral growth. The partnership represents a novel approach to
tourism planning and promotion in Ethiopia, combining cutting-edge space
applications with traditional tourism strategies.

As part of the
agreement signing, tourism officials toured SSGI's Entoto Observatory
facilities, gaining firsthand insight into how space science and geospatial
data can transform tourism planning and resource management.
