MobileMoney
Limited, operators of MTN MoMo, has reaffirmed its commitment to combating
financial fraud through enhanced collaboration with the Economic and Organised
Crime Office (EOCO). The company’s CEO, Shaibu Haruna, led a delegation to
EOCO’s headquarters for a courtesy visit with the newly appointed Acting
Executive Director, Mr. Raymond Archer.
The meeting
focused on strategies to bolster Ghana’s digital financial security framework,
with both institutions exploring deeper partnerships to detect, prevent, and
prosecute financial crimes targeting mobile money users. Mr. Haruna
congratulated Mr. Archer on his appointment and emphasized MobileMoney’s
readiness to support EOCO’s mission through advanced fraud detection systems
and customer education initiatives.

Acting
Executive Director Archer acknowledged MobileMoney’s critical role in Ghana’s
cashless agenda and welcomed the opportunity for closer cooperation. “As
digital transactions grow, so must our vigilance against cybercriminals,” he
remarked. The discussion highlighted plans for joint capacity-building
programs, real-time intelligence sharing, and public awareness campaigns to
combat emerging fraud tactics.
The engagement
underscores Ghana’s proactive approach to securing its rapidly expanding
digital finance sector, where mobile money interoperability has driven
financial inclusion to over 68% of the adult population. With MTN MoMo
processing billions of cedis monthly, such public-private collaborations are
essential to maintaining system integrity.
