Ghana
has announced that it will host the closing ceremony of the International Year
of Quantum Science in Accra on 10–11 February, formally inviting UNESCO Member
States to participate in the global event.
The
announcement was made at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris by Ghana’s Permanent
Delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador Meredith Naakai Lamptey Addy. The ceremony will
mark the conclusion of a year dedicated to celebrating advances in quantum
science and technology and their growing influence on research, innovation and
sustainable development.

The
International Year of Quantum Science has focused on raising global awareness
of the transformative role of quantum research, including its applications
across fields such as computing, communications, health, energy and advanced
materials. It has also emphasized the contribution of quantum technologies to
addressing global development challenges.
Hosting
the closing ceremony in Accra positions Ghana as a key convening hub for
scientific dialogue and international cooperation, while reinforcing Africa’s
engagement in emerging and frontier technologies. The event is expected to
bring together policymakers, scientists, researchers and international partners
to reflect on the achievements of the year and explore future pathways for
collaboration in quantum science and innovation.
