The
Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub (BDIH) recently hosted a two-day Open
Data Hackathon Progress and Planning Workshop, bringing together stakeholders
from academia, research institutions, government, the private sector, and the
wider innovation ecosystem.

The
workshop built on previous Open Data engagement sessions, focusing on reviewing
prior outcomes, validating priority datasets for the upcoming Hackathon, and
assessing data readiness, access, and institutional progress. These efforts aim
to ensure that datasets are accessible, relevant, and prepared to support
innovative solutions.

The
Open Data Hackathon is scheduled for March 2026 and is supported by the
European Union under the EU Support to Digital Transformation in Botswana
Project, in partnership with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The
initiative reflects Botswana’s commitment to fostering collaboration,
data-driven innovation, and a thriving digital ecosystem.
