MTN
Zambia has engaged members of the Hephy Women’s Multipurpose Co-operative
Society in Chipata, donating a dedicated MoMo money booth and K10,000 in seed
capital to support their business operations.
The
initiative forms part of the telecommunications company’s broader efforts to
advance financial inclusion and empower women-led enterprises through access to
digital financial services.

In
addition to the financial support, MTN Zambia announced that it will provide
the women with financial literacy training, including guidance on how to
utilise MoMo’s village banking services to strengthen their savings culture and
improve access to secure and convenient financial tools.
The
event was attended by the Mayor of Chipata, who was represented by Chipata
Central Area Councillor Mr. Jonston Sinyangwe. In his remarks, he underscored
the economic significance of women’s empowerment.
“Empowering
women is not charity, it is a sound economic strategy,” he said. “When women have access
to secure financial tools, families stabilise, businesses scale and communities
grow stronger.”

MTN
Zambia reiterated its commitment to supporting women through financial
inclusion and digital skills development, noting that equipping women with the
right tools and knowledge contributes directly to sustainable community growth
and economic development in the region.
