A high-level delegation comprising defense ministers, military attachés, ambassadors and representatives from the African Union and the United Nations has visited the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing technological sovereignty across the continent.
The delegation was received by the Institute’s Deputy Director General, Yitagesu Desalegn, who outlined the organization’s strategic priorities. He emphasized that developing homegrown artificial intelligence systems and applications is critical to addressing cross-sector challenges and strengthening Africa’s ability to shape its own technological future.

According to the Institute, the visiting officials expressed admiration for the progress made, describing the initiatives as a model that could be replicated in other African countries. Particular attention was given to the Institute’s Startup Center, which was highlighted as a platform for nurturing emerging innovators capable of contributing to Ethiopia’s development and enhancing Africa’s global technological standing.
During the tour, delegates visited the Startup Center, Robotics Workshop, Data Center and Showroom, where they observed ongoing projects and research activities. Officials said the facilities demonstrate the continent’s growing determination to transition from technology consumption to innovation-driven leadership.

The visit forms part of broader continental efforts to strengthen digital capacity, promote collaboration and reinforce Africa’s position in the global technology landscape.
