Ethiopia’s
Minister of Innovation and Technology, Bete Mola, has underscored the
government’s focus on empowering young people through technology to advance the
country’s digital economy.
The
Ministry of Innovation and Technology, in collaboration with the Oromia
Regional Science and Technology Bureau, inaugurated the Youth Innovation
Incubation Center and the Ambo Start-Up Center in Ambo city.

The
launch and graduation ceremony was attended by Minister Bete Mola, Oromia
Regional Vice President Awlu Abdi, Ambo Mayor Hatzalu Gemechu and other federal
and regional officials.
Speaking
at the event, Bete Mola said the government is prioritizing youth empowerment
through science, technology and innovation to sustain the development of
Ethiopia’s digital economy. He noted that the newly launched center in Ambo
will contribute to strengthening the national innovation ecosystem and
addressing technological gaps identified across the country.
The
minister added that innovation incubation centers will be established in
various regions to help solve community challenges. He said the Ambo Center is
expected to serve as a hub where young innovators can develop solutions to
societal problems and transform ideas into practical applications.

Awlu
Abdi stated that technology plays a critical role in accelerating national
development. He said the Oromia regional government is supporting agriculture
and other sectors with technological solutions to improve livelihoods and
contribute to achieving Ethiopia’s digital economy objectives.
Mayor
Hatzalu Gemechu said the center is designed not only as a space for youth
engagement but also as a platform for young people to serve their communities
by turning knowledge into action.
Graduates
of the program expressed readiness to apply the skills they have acquired,
including website development and digital content enhancement, to create
employment opportunities and contribute to community development.
