Amazon
has announced a historic €33.7 billion investment in Spain to expand its data
center infrastructure and advance artificial intelligence (AI) innovation
across Europe. This new investment of €18 billion supplements the €15.7 billion
previously announced in 2024, marking the largest technology investment in
Spain’s history.
David Zapolsky, Chief Global Affairs & Legal
Officer at Amazon, highlighted that the investment is expected to contribute
€31.7 billion to Spain’s GDP through 2035 and support nearly 29,900 full-time
equivalent jobs annually. The plan includes the development of 100 solar and
wind energy projects, expansion of cloud and AI infrastructure, and community
programs across Spanish regions.
Amazon will build data centers in all
three provinces of Aragón, including Teruel, where no advanced data center
infrastructure currently exists. The company also plans to invest €30 million
in local community initiatives through 2035, focusing on education,
sustainability, social impact, and regional development.
Zapolsky
emphasized Amazon’s long-term commitment to Spain as the company celebrates 15
years of operations in the country. The announcement underscores Amazon’s role
in supporting Spain and Europe’s digital transformation while fostering
economic growth and technological innovation.
