The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has
reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrime, following the launch of a
national sensitisation campaign on romance scams and fraud titled “Odogwu no
dey hide face.” The campaign was organised by the Nigeria Police Force National
Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).

Speaking at the event, NDPC National Commissioner Dr.
Vincent Olatunji highlighted the growing threat posed by mobile scams and
emphasised the need for collective action among all stakeholders to protect
citizens.
He
noted that many cyber threats begin with the compromise of personal data,
stressing that safeguarding personal information is fundamental to preventing
fraud.

Dr.
Olatunji also drew attention to the economic losses caused by cybercrime and
encouraged organisations to prioritise data protection and privacy in their
operations. He commended NPF-NCCC, led by Director CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, for
its proactive efforts in tackling cybercrime in Nigeria.
