The
National Research Foundation (NRF) has hosted
a delegation from the Ghana National Research
Fund, as part of a strategic study visit aimed at deepening bilateral
cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). The visit is part of
a broader programme running from March 2 to 7, during which Ghanaian
representatives, including officials from ministries overseeing Education,
Science, Technology, and Innovation, engaged with key stakeholders across South
Africa’s STI ecosystem.

The delegation was introduced to
South Africa’s research funding landscape through technical sessions covering
institutional governance, operational frameworks, research funding models,
grants management, project prioritization, and compliance mechanisms.
Discussions also highlighted the role of science engagement in fostering public
trust, education, and participation in the national research enterprise.
NRF and officials from the Department
of Science, Technology and Innovation emphasized the importance of sustained
continental partnerships to strengthen research systems, advance scientific
excellence, and support innovation-driven development across Africa.

The
Ghana–South Africa engagement is expected to lay the groundwork for future
collaborative funding mechanisms, joint research initiatives, and coordinated
programmes, reinforcing the development of a more integrated and globally
competitive African science ecosystem.
