African Digital Transformation Centre launched in South Africa to boost innovation and SME growth

The
African Digital Transformation Centre has
officially launched in South Africa, marking a major step in bridging the
country’s digital innovation divide. The centre was established through a
collaboration between the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Department
of Digital Communications and Technologies, South Africa.
The centre is part of the ITU’s global network of
Acceleration Centres under the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for
Digital Development. It is designed to catalyse digital innovation, support
national development objectives, and create opportunities for small, medium,
and micro enterprises as well as public and private sector actors.
Craig
Rolando Meyer, Director of Emerging Technologies and Innovation, described the
launch as a milestone reflecting perseverance, collaboration, and the shared
vision of unlocking Africa’s innovation potential. He expressed gratitude to
the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other partners whose
support was instrumental in bringing the centre to fruition.
The event was attended by Deputy
Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele,
alongside DigiTech SMEs, ecosystem partners, and stakeholders who engaged in
discussions on advancing digital entrepreneurship.
The ADTC
is set to serve as a hub for innovation, providing resources, mentorship, and
collaboration opportunities to support the growth of Africa’s technology and
entrepreneurship sectors. Stakeholders hailed the launch as a significant step
in strengthening the continent’s digital transformation agenda.
