The
Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation in South Africa,
Nomalungelo Gina, has undertaken a strategic site visit to the Vodacom Campus
at Vodaworld as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between government
and the private sector in advancing the country’s science and technology
agenda.

During
the visit, the deputy minister co-chaired engagements with the Chief Executive
Officer of Vodacom South Africa, Sitho Mdlalose, focusing on opportunities to
expand cooperation in research, development and innovation.
The
discussions highlighted the importance of public–private partnerships in
driving South Africa’s science, technology and innovation priorities,
particularly in areas that support inclusive digital transformation and
economic growth.
Officials
noted that strengthening collaboration with industry players such as Vodacom
can help increase investment in research and development while supporting the
development of emerging sectors.

The
engagements also explored opportunities to leverage innovation and technology
to strengthen the country’s space economy and create new pathways for growth,
skills development and technological advancement.
