The Principal Secretary in Kenya’s State
Department of ICT and Digital Economy, John
Kipchumba Tanui has held discussions with a European Union delegation
aimed at strengthening digital cooperation between Kenya and the EU.
The EU delegation was led by Renate Nikolay, with talks focusing on key
priorities shaping the future of the digital economy, including the development
of sovereign cloud infrastructure with an emphasis on energy efficiency, as
well as collaboration on submarine cable resilience and broader technological
sovereignty.

The engagement also highlighted
Kenya’s ongoing efforts to accelerate its digital transformation agenda,
particularly in the adoption and development of artificial intelligence and
emerging technologies. Officials underscored the country’s ambition not only to
adopt innovations but to actively contribute to their global development.
Kenya reaffirmed its position as a
growing digital hub, citing its strong talent base and existing partnerships
with EU member states as critical enablers of innovation and competitiveness.

The
meeting was attended by senior government officials, including ICT Directors
Loyford Muriithi, Evans Gichuki, and Barnabas Sang, as well as Chief Financial
Officer Shadrack Maweu, reflecting a coordinated approach to advancing
international digital partnerships.
