Uganda has taken a significant step toward
strengthening its digital economy, as Monica
Musenero Masanza and Aminah Zawedde
agreed on an operational roadmap aimed at translating digital connectivity into
tangible economic value.
The initiative, announced during Women’s Month,
focuses on building a sustainable ecosystem that links digital infrastructure
with economic productivity. The roadmap integrates universities, innovation
labs, manufacturing, and enterprise to ensure that digital advancements
directly contribute to national development.

Musenero emphasized the importance of
retaining value within the country, drawing parallels with Uganda’s historical
role in raw commodity production. She noted that the country is shifting toward
building local capacity in technology, training its workforce, and creating
systems that ensure economic benefits remain within Uganda.
Zawedde highlighted the role of
digital skills in driving economic growth, stating that training young people
in technology equips them to create businesses, generate employment, and
sustain value within the local economy.

The
government’s approach reflects a broader strategy to position Uganda not only
as a participant in the digital economy but as a producer of value-added
digital products and services, leveraging its growing talent base to drive
inclusive economic transformation.
