Fleur A. Bessou has been awarded the African Award for Women in Leadership in
the Digital Sector at the 10th edition of a ceremony organised by the African
Observatory for the Promotion of Good Governance.
The
event was held on March 28, 2026, at the Pullman Hotel Abidjan, bringing
together stakeholders from across governance, policy and digital development
sectors.

The
award recognises Bessou’s election as the first African to chair the
Telecommunication Development Advisory Group of the International
Telecommunication Union, a milestone seen as significant for African
representation in global digital policy and development discussions.
In
her remarks, Bessou said the recognition reinforces her commitment to advancing
digital inclusion, promoting women’s leadership and supporting universal
digital transformation across Africa, with particular focus on Côte d’Ivoire.

She
dedicated the award to the broader digital community, especially women whose
contributions continue to shape the continent’s technology ecosystem.
The
recognition highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen inclusive leadership and
governance within Africa’s rapidly evolving digital sector.
