The
Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Jean
Kaseya, has held a high-level meeting with Abiy Ahmed to advance collaboration
on artificial intelligence and digital health initiatives across the continent.
The
discussions focused on key priorities, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s
new role as the African Union Champion for Artificial Intelligence and Digital
Health, a position aimed at driving innovation and strengthening health systems
across Ethiopia and the wider region.
Both
leaders emphasised the importance of leveraging emerging technologies to
address evolving public health challenges, improve access to healthcare
services, and enhance health outcomes. The engagement highlighted the growing
role of AI and digital tools in supporting disease surveillance, healthcare
delivery, and system resilience.
Africa
CDC welcomed Ethiopia’s leadership in advancing digital health innovation and
underscored the value of sharing experiences and best practices to accelerate
progress across African countries.
The
meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation and ensuring
that technological innovation translates into practical, inclusive, and
equitable solutions for strengthening health systems across the continent.
