MTN Group has announced the appointment of Lwazi Bam as its new Chief Risk Officer,
effective 1 June 2026, as the company continues to strengthen its leadership
team in line with its long-term strategic objectives.
Bam brings more than two decades of senior leadership
experience to the role, having previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Africa and Southern Africa. His career
has been marked by leading large and complex organisations across multiple
jurisdictions, with a strong focus on governance, regulatory compliance and
risk management.
Commenting on the appointment, Ralph Mupita, Group President and CEO of MTN,
said Bam joins the company at a pivotal moment as it advances its Ambition 2030
strategy. He noted that Bam’s leadership experience and deep understanding of
risk, regulatory and governance frameworks position him well to support the
group’s growth across diverse markets.
MTN said the appointment underscores
its commitment to reinforcing its risk management capabilities as it expands
its digital and financial services footprint across the continent.
Bam is expected to play a key role in
strengthening enterprise risk oversight and ensuring that the group maintains
robust governance standards while navigating an increasingly complex operating
environment.
