South Sudanese Engineer, Zamba Leonel of the National Communication Authority (NCA), has showcased an innovative approach to building Africa’s next generation of space engineers through the EduSat NanoSatellite Training Kit at the just-ended New Space Conference 2026 in Libreville, Gabon

The CubeSat-based training platform is designed to provide hands-on experience in satellite engineering, enabling young professionals to move beyond theoretical learning into practical mission development. The solution focuses on equipping emerging talent with the technical skills required to meet the growing demands of the space and satellite industry.

Leonel’s presentation underscored the importance of practical training tools in closing the skills gap within Africa’s space ecosystem, particularly as the continent seeks to expand its participation in global space activities.

The EduSat initiative reflects broader efforts to strengthen capacity development in the sector by fostering innovation, enhancing technical expertise, and preparing a new generation of engineers to contribute to Africa’s evolving space ambitions.
