Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong digital skills base and advancing artificial intelligence capacity as part of its national development strategy.

Principal Secretary for the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation, Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, officiated the Huawei Talent Development for the AI Era and ICT Competition Award Ceremony held during the 15th Connected Africa Summit.

The event focused on the role of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and innovation in reshaping economies, governance, education, and industry across Africa. Prof. Abdulrazak said the ongoing technological shift represents a major development opportunity for Kenya rather than a disruption.

He emphasised that talent remains the country’s most important asset, noting government efforts to strengthen STEM education, expand support for researchers, and promote the growth of innovation hubs and start-ups across the country.

As part of the programme, outstanding students were recognised and are set to represent Kenya in China at a global competition, where they will showcase their skills in ICT and innovation.

Prof. Abdulrazak congratulated the students and encouraged them to demonstrate the country’s capabilities on the international stage, highlighting Kenya’s ambition to position itself as a regional leader in digital transformation and technology-driven development.
