Nigeria
has signed a Working Together Agreement with Airbus during a high-level visit
to the company’s facilities in Toulouse, France, marking a significant step in
efforts to expand the country’s aviation capacity and competitiveness.
The
agreement was concluded during a strategic working visit led by Nigeria’s
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who headed a
delegation to engage with Airbus on key areas of collaboration within the
aviation sector.

The
partnership focuses on fleet expansion, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO)
development, technical support, and workforce training. These areas are
considered critical to strengthening Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and
positioning the country to meet growing demand across the continent.
Officials
indicated that the agreement aligns with projections that Africa will require
more than 1,400 new aircraft in the coming years, presenting an opportunity for
Nigeria to play a leading role in the region’s aviation growth.

The
collaboration is expected to support the development of a more resilient and
globally competitive aviation ecosystem, enhance local technical capacity, and
improve operational efficiency within the sector.
The
move also underscores Nigeria’s broader ambition to position itself as a
regional hub for air transport, leveraging strategic partnerships to drive
industry growth and integration into the global aviation market.
