Ethiopia’s
Information Network Security Administration (INSA) has called for stronger
collaboration among stakeholders to protect the country’s manufacturing sector
from growing cyber threats as industries accelerate digital transformation
efforts.
INSA
Director General Tigist Hamid made the remarks during a panel discussion at the
“Ethiopia Tamirt Expo 2018,” where participants discussed innovation,
leadership, digitalization and the role of family businesses in strengthening
Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector.

Speaking on
the importance of cybersecurity in industrial transformation, Tigist Hamid said
the increasing adoption of digital technologies in manufacturing systems has
exposed industrial control systems and SCADA infrastructure to more
sophisticated cyber risks.
She
stressed that safeguarding Ethiopia’s digital manufacturing ecosystem requires
coordinated efforts among government institutions, industry leaders and other
stakeholders.
The
Director General also highlighted the need for closer collaboration between the
cybersecurity and manufacturing sectors in developing digital talent capable of
supporting the country’s evolving industrial landscape.

According
to Tigist Hamid, cybersecurity remains a key pillar of Ethiopia’s Digital
Ethiopia 2030 strategy, which aims to drive national digital transformation and
economic modernization.
She further
outlined Ethiopia’s ambition to transition toward Industry 5.0 through the
adoption of smart manufacturing technologies powered by artificial intelligence
and the Internet of Things to improve productivity, efficiency and product
quality.
The INSA
chief additionally emphasized the role of digitalized supply chains and
traceability systems in strengthening the competitiveness of Ethiopian
manufacturers in global markets.
