The International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) has concluded its final Council meeting ahead of
the upcoming Plenipotentiary Conference, with Secretary-General Doreen
Bogdan-Martin highlighting the role of multilateral cooperation in advancing
the organization’s global digital agenda.
The nine-day meeting brought
together council members to deliberate on key priorities aimed at strengthening
the ITU’s operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and global service
delivery capabilities.

Bogdan-Martin said the
discussions reflected a shared commitment among member states to build
consensus and advance cooperation despite increasingly complex global
challenges.
According to the ITU
Secretary-General, the Council also focused on measures to improve
institutional resilience, optimize resources, and reinforce efforts to expand
global connectivity.
She noted that the meeting
demonstrated continued support for investing in digital connection and
resilience, describing these efforts as central to the ITU’s mission as it
marks 161 years of operation.

Bogdan-Martin also
acknowledged the leadership of Council Chair, Dr. Bosun Tijani, commending his
role in guiding deliberations and fostering collaboration among member states.
The meeting sets the stage
for the upcoming ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, where member countries will
define the Union’s strategic direction and priorities for the coming years.
