Nigeria’s Minister of
Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has held
discussions with World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
on the growing intersection of trade, technology, and artificial intelligence
in the global economy.
The meeting took place in
Geneva on the sidelines of the International Telecommunication Union Council,
where both leaders explored the implications of digital transformation for
developing economies and the need for inclusive participation in emerging technology-driven
opportunities.

According to Dr. Tijani, the
discussions focused on how countries such as Nigeria can position themselves to
benefit from rapid advances in technology, digital trade, and artificial
intelligence as global commerce continues to evolve.
He noted that Nigeria is
committed to strengthening innovation, expanding digital infrastructure,
developing technology talent, and deepening international collaboration to
support economic growth and competitiveness in the digital era.
The engagement also
highlighted the importance of ensuring that developing nations are not left
behind as artificial intelligence and digital technologies increasingly shape
global productivity, trade systems, and economic development.

Nigeria has continued to
advance its digital economy agenda through investments in connectivity,
innovation ecosystems, and technology-driven policies aimed at accelerating
inclusive growth and supporting the country’s participation in the global
digital economy.
