The Director General of the
Regional African Satellite Communications Organization, Mr. Timothy Ashong, has
paid a courtesy call on the Regional Director of the International Telecommunication Union
Regional Office for Africa, Mr. Emmanuel C. Manasseh, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,
as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the two organisations.
The meeting focused on
advancing cooperation in areas related to Africa’s digital transformation
agenda, including resilient communications infrastructure, connectivity
expansion, and the use of satellite-enabled technologies to support sustainable
development across the continent.
Speaking during the
engagement, Mr. Ashong underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in
accelerating Africa’s digital inclusion agenda and bridging connectivity gaps
in underserved communities.

“Strategic collaboration
between regional and international institutions is critical to ensuring that
Africa fully harnesses the potential of satellite communications and digital
technologies for socio-economic development,” he said.
The discussions also
explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in strengthening Africa’s ICT
ecosystem and supporting initiatives aimed at expanding access to reliable and
affordable digital services.
Mr. Manasseh reaffirmed the
importance of cooperation among continental stakeholders to support innovation,
infrastructure development, and inclusive connectivity across Africa.
The engagement reflects
ongoing efforts by RASCOM and the ITU to support policies and initiatives that
promote a connected and digitally empowered Africa through coordinated regional
action and technology-driven development.
