The International
Telecommunication Union has officially opened the Regional Development Forum
for Africa in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, bringing together ICT leaders,
development partners and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of digital
transformation across the continent.
The forum is focused on
advancing the newly adopted ITU Regional Initiatives for Africa for the
2026–2029 period, with discussions expected to centre on strengthening digital
inclusion, connectivity and partnerships to accelerate socio-economic development
in African countries.

Director of the ITU
Telecommunication Development Bureau, Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, described the
gathering as an important platform for aligning countries’ digital priorities
with development partners and stakeholders through the Partner2Connect initiative.
According to Dr. Zavazava,
the event will also promote the implementation of outcomes from the World
Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 aimed at supporting inclusive
digital transformation efforts across Africa.
He expressed appreciation to
the Government of Zimbabwe and the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory
Authority of Zimbabwe for hosting the regional forum.

The meeting is expected to
feature discussions on connectivity, digital infrastructure, innovation,
capacity building and regional collaboration as African countries work towards
expanding access to digital technologies and services.
Stakeholders attending the
forum are also expected to explore opportunities for partnerships and
investments that will support the implementation of key ICT development
initiatives across the region.
