Cassava
Technologies Founder and Group Chairman, Strive Masiyiwa, has been awarded an
Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by Princeton University in recognition of
his contributions to business, education and humanitarian development across
Africa.
The
honour was conferred during Princeton University’s 279th Commencement ceremony
held on 26 May 2026, where Masiyiwa was recognized for his longstanding impact
in advancing entrepreneurship, digital infrastructure and philanthropic
initiatives.
Strive
Masiyiwa is widely known for establishing Econet and Cassava Technologies, as
well as co-founding the Higherlife Foundation alongside his wife Tsitsi
Masiyiwa. His work over the past three decades has focused on expanding access
to education, technology and social development opportunities across the
continent.
Cassava
Technologies described the recognition as a reflection of Masiyiwa’s sustained
contribution to transformative initiatives in Africa’s technology and
development landscape.
Princeton
University joins several global institutions, including Yale University,
Morehouse College and Stellenbosch University, in awarding honorary
distinctions to Masiyiwa in recognition of his leadership and influence.
The
award highlights growing global recognition of African entrepreneurs who are
shaping digital transformation, innovation ecosystems and social impact
initiatives across the continent.
