Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has said that his tenure at the central bank has been defined by a consultative leadership approach aimed at improving stakeholder engagement, strengthening public trust and delivering more effective policy outcomes.

Speaking at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit in London on June 1, 2026, Dr. Asiama explained that his leadership philosophy was shaped in part by his time away from the Bank, during which he actively engaged in public discourse and listened to criticisms and concerns about the institution.

According to the Governor, one of the first reforms introduced upon assuming office was a commitment to greater consultation and openness in the Bank’s operations.

He said the objective of the approach is to demystify the central bank and create stronger channels of engagement with stakeholders across the financial ecosystem.

Dr. Asiama noted that enhanced dialogue and stakeholder participation have enabled the Bank to identify challenges more quickly and implement practical solutions in a timely manner.

As an example, he cited the Bank’s intervention to address payment-related challenges affecting social media influencers, describing the response as evidence of how inclusive engagement can lead to effective policymaking.

The Governor emphasized that meaningful consultation is critical to improving decision-making processes and ensuring that policies are responsive to the needs of the public and industry stakeholders.

He added that the consultative model has contributed to building confidence in the institution while supporting the Bank of Ghana’s broader mandate of maintaining financial stability and promoting economic development.
